ja-reading.com (“we”, “us”) takes your privacy seriously. This notice explains what information the Website collects and how it is used. The Website is a Japanese reading service at https://ja-reading.com.

Information we collect

If you create an account, we store the email address and password hash you submit, plus an optional display name. We also keep membership status and order records so we can unlock paid features and handle refunds.

The Website also records routine technical information such as IP addresses, browser details, timestamps, and referring pages. We use this to run the site, enforce the daily free dictionary quota, and keep accounts secure. Technical logs alone do not tell us who you are; your email does.

Cookies

Where necessary, the Website uses cookies or similar storage for a signed-in session, language and theme preferences, and (when you are not signed in) a signed cookie that counts that day’s free dictionary lookups.

We do not use advertising cookies or sell your information to advertisers.

How we use information

We use the information above to provide accounts, membership, dictionary quotas, customer support, and routine administration. We do not sell personal information.

Third parties

Payments may be processed by WeChat Pay, Alipay, or Paddle. Those providers receive the payment details they need to complete the charge. For Paddle checkout, Paddle may act as merchant of record.

The Website may load fonts from Google Fonts, which can see your IP address. Dictionary lookups are handled on our servers. Book texts come from Aozora Bunko; we do not send your account to Aozora.

Retention

We keep account and order records while the account is open and for as long as we need them for billing, refunds, or legal obligations. You can ask us to delete an account by writing to the address below.

Children

The Website is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13.
