By visiting, accessing, or using ja-reading.com (the “Website”), you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Website.

Description of Service

The Website provides an online reader for public-domain Japanese literature from Aozora Bunko, with tap-to-define dictionary lookups and optional membership features (the “Service”). Reading the texts is free. Membership unlocks furigana, unlimited dictionary lookups, and punctuation the original text omits.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Website. By using the Website, you represent that you meet this requirement.

Accounts

Some features need an account. You are responsible for the email and password you use and for activity on that account. Keep your password secret and give us accurate information.

Membership and payment

Paid plans include a 7-day membership and a lifetime membership. Prices are shown at checkout. We may offer WeChat Pay, Alipay, and international checkout through Paddle. For Paddle payments, Paddle may be the merchant of record and its buyer terms also apply. Unpaid orders expire after a short time.

A 7-day plan can be renewed; leftover days are added. Lifetime membership does not expire. Membership does not transfer ownership of any text or dictionary data.

Book texts are public-domain works from Aozora Bunko. Dictionary data is based on JMdict (EDRDG) under CC BY-SA 4.0. You may not scrape, republish, or misuse the Website in a way that harms the Service or other users, and you may not bypass paywalls or quotas.

Disclaimer and liability

The Service is provided “as is”. Readings, glosses, and restored punctuation may be incomplete or incorrect. To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for a paid purchase is limited to the amount you paid for that purchase.

Changes and contact

We may update these Terms. Continued use after a change means you accept the new Terms.
