回顧すれば既に十有余年の昔となったが、明治三十八年、我輩がアメリカのハーヴァード大学を訪うた時、同大学の法科大学の大教場に、このオースチン夫人サラーの肖像を掲げてあるのを見た。これは英国オックスフォールド大学教授マークベイ（Markby）氏の寄贈したものだということであるが、我輩はこれに対して、深厚なる敬意を表するを禁めることが出来なかった。
